HISTORY

The Crater, a restaurant and art ../gallery project, originated ten years ago, conceived within an artistic and ecological context, and inspired by the beauty of its natural surroundings.

During this time, we have shared and offered to thousands of local and worldwide tourists the opportunity of savoring exquisite dishes from local and international cuisines while admiring the beauty of a landscape unique in the world. Nowadays The Crater also provides accommodation in extremely comfortable luxury suites disclosing the pleasure of the wonderful view.

Next year we are offering our clients the launching of a Spa, including massage, aroma therapy, mud baths, hydro massage, sauna, Turkish bath, alternative medicine, and others. Likewise a Working Room will be opened for multiple uses as required by different groups.

The Crater is at 35 minutes driving distance from the city of Quito, and 8 minutes from the Equatorial Monument. It is at 2,830 m above sea level, similar to Quito.

This project is located within the Geobotanical Reservation, inside the crater of the Pululahua Volcano in the Middle of the World. It comprises an area of 12 ha. Its location at the entrance of the Humid Forest inside Pululahua Volcano provides exceptional characteristics.



The Pululahua is an active volcano with the only inhabited crater in the world. It is a 5-kilometer diameter depression where endemic vegetation includes unique orchids and 33 different vegetation species per square meter. Birds are those typical of the humid forest of the North-Eastern zone of the province.



Since cradled inside, a micro weather develops a continuously changing environment. The dancing fog moves with the wind revealing a unique sight. It is a place of magic, a new gift of nature no matter the time of day, a site for mystique contemplation, relaxation and meditation.



Being crossed by the Equator Line, this location is also close to Rumicucho and Catequilla ruins. Historically, the natives considered the Pululahua Volcano as the Earth's navel. It is a physical and energetic planetary center. "Pululahua" means "cloud of water". A net for the collection of foggy water has been installed to obtain pure water to nourish the zone.
